Another crazy side effect to this whole experience is my new found ability to eat anything and everything. I’ve always had a crazy sweet tooth. And I could eat pizza twice a week without question.
(This girl’s got the right idea)
I find myself eating a whole lot more now though. Luckily I crave good stuff most of the time right now. However, I’m not going to lie…the thought of ice cream has been killing me all week with this cold. Anyway, I crave lots of protein these days because I know that hitting the gym with a belly full of pizza or chicken fingers is not going to be good. What’s surprising is how much of it I can eat. I had four chicken thighs for dinner the other night….four. And I don’t even feel guilty. I’m sure this isn’t a lot compared to most guys, but I feel like I’m hanging in there with some guys now. This is really only a problem when I’m out eating with other guys and they eat less than me…or even the same amount. I’m not used to that. This poor kid…Trent, we’ll call him….has suffered the bulk of my frustration. Twice now I’ve been out with friends and he’s ordered the same thing as me. And both times he didn’t want to finish it all after I had already eaten EVERYTHING on my plate. My solution, I just ridiculed him until he ate so much that he felt sick. And then I felt better ; )
Oh, and I have a confession. Yesterday I said that I had maintained my weight from the beginning of this process, but I lied. I think I was in denial about it because I had weighed myself a few times and I was down a bit. But yesterday I checked and for the fourth or fifth time in a row I’m weighing in about 5-8 pounds less than where I was a few months ago. I’m a lot stronger than I was before so I’m pretty confident that this is not due to a loss in muscle mass. The true test would be to monitor my body fat percentage, but that’s just too humiliating. Have you ever done it? Getting all your fat roles pulled out and then measured. And in all the worst places. Belly fat, swinging arm fat, inner thighs…ugh. It’s horrible. I’d rather just guess.
So my workout this morning went okay. I struggled a bit with not being able to breathe very well through my stuffy nose, but I survived. I did more light weight squats for stretching and then added some weight. It felt pretty good. Then it was time for heavy stiff leg dead lifts. I think I’ve done hundreds of sets of these by now. My back was tired so I had to push a bit to get through all the reps, but I made it. Then it was easy from there. I didn’t even struggle too much with one of my least favorite ab exercises- Swiss Ball prone bridges. You do a plank on the ball and then put your feet up on a bench and hold for 60 seconds. The first time I tried it, I thought I was going to die. Now, I just find it incredibly uncomfortable ; )
(like this but with your feet up on a bench….ouch!!!)
One more work out to go this week. I think I can do it. Here’s to a great weekend. I have a lot of fun stuff planned. Hopefully this cold doesn’t get in the way!!!!
