So when I signed up for this whole power lifting thing, I knew that I would have to deal with some changes in my body. Some of them were expected, but some of them…not so much.
I’ve maintained a steady weight from pretty much the day I started training. However, I’ve taken pictures along the way so I can say without a doubt that I look a lot different. My clothes also fit differently….always a good sign. I didn’t start doing this to lose weight. In fact, I get a bit nervous these days if I see the scale drop a few pounds because I don’t want to lose any muscle. If I lose fat, that’s more than fine…as long as I don’t end up looking like a twelve-year-old boy. So overall, I’m happy with the changes I’ve seen in my body despite missing out on most women’s goal of losing weight.
However, having a different shape has created problems in some areas. As a woman, I try to do my part to be suitable for the public eye. I’ve been shaving my armpits since I was in middle school so I’ve managed to get pretty comfortable with it. Especially when my armpits looked something like this….
I’m sure your first instinct is not to check out her arm pits, but bare with me. My arms, however, have bulged a bit, as have my lats and my shoulders. This leaves me in an odd predicament. My armpits have seemed to recede into my body leaving behind a deep, dark, hole. For example, check out this girl…
She looks great right? She’s some random body builder that I found a picture of. (I feel an overwhelming need to add a disclaimer here- I am NOT a body builder). Anyway, she looks good, but look closer….yes, at her armpits again. Can you see how getting a regular razor in those small little spaces might be difficult. Well, it is. Believe me though. I am going to do everything in my power to make sure it’s taken care of….
There are many more quirks that I did not expect, but I will leave those for another day. Today I am battling a cold. I had a hard time getting through my workout today, but I made it. I worked a bit more on my squat technique (affectionately referred to as the ass drag). Then I did a few sets of heavy bench. I ache everywhere, but I think that’s an overall combination of not getting any sleep in the last month, being sick, and working a bit harder at the gym. I’ll be back at it at 6:45 tomorrow morning though…..more squats. can’t wait.
