Yeah, bruises. Lots of them. It’s not really something I was counting on when I started lifting. The greatest part was when I first started lifting, I tried to learn how to do cleans and snatches. These are very dynamic movements that kind of have two parts with a bit of a transition in the middle. When you transition, the bar comes in contact with your thighs or your hips. If you had bad form, the contact can be brutal….especially if you have a good amount of weight on the bar. And of course, my form was horrible to start out.
I looked a bit like this guy….only on my legs.
Now that I’m power lifting I don’t do too many cleans or snatches, but the deadlifts are still keeping me covered in the bruise department. However, I only bruise on my shins from deadlifts. As we head into beach season, I feel like a few bruises on my shins wouldn’t be too noticeable. But looking like I was flogged from my knees to my hips would be bad. Very bad.
Otherwise, my workout was a bit humbling yesterday. I was a bit of a dumbass this weekend. It was fun, as I think those of you who were with me would agree, but it was not my greatest performance. Too much beer and not enough sleeping or working out. So when I showed up at the gym on Monday for a bench max and my subsequent work out….I was not exactly feeling buff. I did fine, but I feel like I could have done a lot better if I had even spent 10 minutes being nice to my body last weekend. Ah….and as I say all of this, I’m formulating my plans for next weekend ; )
Yeah, this was pretty much the jist of my accomplishements this weekend ; )
It sounds like I’m graduating from heavy triples and doubles to heavy singles today. This should be fun. I also think it will help me figure out what I need to be thinking and telling my body to do during my lifts. It’s amazing how much better I squat if I’m conscious of driving my chest up first, then lifting my butt. So I’ll be working on the metal aspect of lifting over the next few days. Hopefully I can find some sort of groove.
