Yeah, yeah…I know it might be slightly premature, but there are some significant differences between my current program and my previous program. It makes sense that I would notice changes in my body and my performance. So here goes.
When I was working with Kati, each workout was more of a full body challenge. We would lift heavy with one body part/area and then lighter with everything else. For example, if it was a heavy bench day then I would do RDL’s and walking lunges, etc. There was also an ab workout every day and cardio before and after every workout. I would say the workouts were more geared toward overall performance and fitness with a power lifting emphasis.
My workouts now are a lot different. I’m lucky enough to be working with some one who actually competes in power lifting and has found a system that works for him. My form has come a long way, and it’s been good to be able to switch things up a bit. The workouts now focus on one major boday part/area. Kind of like body builder splits. Monday- squats, Wednesday- heavy bench, Thursday- dead lift, Friday- speed bench. The workouts are a lot quicker, and I don’t do very many auxilary lifts. Ray emphasizes that I should have speed in my lifts because that’s what gets you through when it’s tough. So everything is fast. And the results are different. I think it’s too soon to determine if I’ve made strength gains, but I know that I feel different in other ways.
I think I’m trending more toward power lifter….which is kind of scary if you seen many power lifters.
Yeah….as tough as these guys are…..not exactly what I’m going for. Can you blame me?
So here’s the depressing part. I think I’m going to have to reign in my eating habits…..BOOOO. I can tell that my metabolism has gone way down. I used to want to kill myself and everyone else in the room if I didn’t eat every two hours.
Had over the doughnut tubby and no one gets hurt.
But I don’t feel like that anymore. I still get hungry, it’s just not as severe or as often. I’m also going to have to add more cardio on my off days. I knew that was coming, but I’m still dreading it. And more ab work. Unfortunately, where I used to have a fairly defined stomach, I no longer do.
So this all seems fairly straight forward….until you factor in the reality of how sore and worn out I am on these off days. I hobble around like an old lady half the time, and now I’m supposed to go out and pound the pavement?
Lose the smile granny, you know it hurts.
So there you have it. My take on my new workouts so far. I think with a few adjust ments this could be really successful….I’ll just have to see how good I am at making those adjustments.
