No….I’m not talking about potential husband material, I’m talking about gyms. I mentioned in my last post that I got a chance to work out at another gym back home while I was dealing with my dad. I’d never been to that gym before because I wasn’t much of a worker outer back in the day (except for The Firm of course).
I went to the gym twice while I was home. The first day, the owner wasn’t there, just a bunch of guys getting sweaty. It’s a small place in a strip mall. There was a squat rack and bunch of dumbbells on one side. The coolest part was that the dumbbells went in increments of 2.5 pounds instead of the standard 5 pounds. It made arm/shoulder stuff a lot easier for me because I can’t always jump 5 pounds, but 2.5 was perfect! The other side had some cardio machines and some standard gym equipment…..pully thing for lat pull downs etc., preacher curl bench, leg extensions, hamstring curls, etc. It was cute.
A few of the guys in there compete in strong man competitions so they lift a lot of weight. There was even an atlas ball kicking around in the corner. We squatted on the first day, and one of the guys noticed my spiffy new lifting shoes right away. He was pretty impressed to see a girl wearing lifting shoes. It obviously happens a lot…otherwise they wouldn’t make them in pink ; ) Just maybe not in Piedmont, Idaho (coyote ugly reference).
The second day we did back and shoulders. It was a great work out. The owner actually showed up about 20 minutes in. I was introduced to him and then my lifting buddy mentioned that I was a power lifter. He was pretty jazzed. I think they would have taken me in in a heart beat. He was asking me if I could come in again so that I could dead lift with them. They dead lift with bands which is something I haven’t had the chance to try yet. I’m guessing it’s going to hurt based on the level of excitement they had when they were describing it.
Here’s the link to his place if you’re ever in the area. They even have semi truck tires in the back if you feel like tossing a few around.

A quick note on my workout today. It was squat day so I did 5×5 at 165 pounds. I was panicking a bit about not being able to do it, but I cranked it out. Maybe it’s the shoes. Or maybe it’s the extra drive that I’m feeling these days. Who knows.
In the mean time, my trainer is losing focus. He bailed on me to volunteer with the Girl Scouts selling cookies door to door.
I’m going to have to figure out a way to motivate him. Maybe I’m going to have to start baking for him. A dozen chocolate chip cookies for every work out…..yum.
