Well, if you were a trainer that is. Think of it as a distraught parent going to meet with the coach because her son didn’t make the baseball team. 90% of the time, the mom gets the ever-present cliché answer- “Johnny has a lot of potential, but he lacks consistency.” Poor Johnny.
That or Johnny’s just a straight up douche with absolutely no athletic ability…..
That’s gotta hurt.
I prefer to put myself in the first category….lacking consistency. I was supposed to do a squat workout yesterday. Ugh, it was horrible. I couldn’t even do 5 reps at 155. It was terrible. I have a laundry list of excuses, but I’m not sure if any of them are valid. I biked a lot this weekend including two trips up the hill on Sunday to get home after sailing and then the fireworks (which were awesome!). And I felt like my back might still have been a bit tired from deadlifting last Thursday, but holy cow- that was after three days rest. Everyone says that it’s normal to have a bad day in the gym every now and then, but it seems like I have more than I should. I guess it could be a mental block too. I know I’m prone to nervousness and get pretty intimidated by the weight sometimes. Geez, the struggles of being a girl.
Anyway, since I couldn’t squat….I moved on to leg presses. It was kind of fun because I’ve never done leg presses before (there isn’t one at the gym I normally go to). I was off work for the holiday so we worked out at an Anytime Fitness since we could get in there earlier. I started out at 90 pounds on the machine and worked up to 14 reps at 360 pounds. So at least I got some work in. I had an interesting encounter while I was using the leg press though. There was this pip squeak little body builder guy in the gym who was trying to set up a barbell to do some rows. I was sitting on the leg press resting in between sets, facing away from him. He came up behind me and said, “are you using the leg press?”. I turned around and he was already starting to pull the plates off when I said, “yeah….I am.” Uh….what did he think I was doing? Um, I think I’ll load up a bunch of weight on the leg press machine and then just sit on it and rest while I check my nails and play with my hair, tehe. Dork.
Tonight is soccer…I’m stearing clear of preggers. Then tomorrow it’s benching……crossing my fingers that it goes well.
