Taco, Burrito, what’s that comin’ out of your speedo?
I think having these guys around for the next power lifting event might be pretty hilarious. Maybe if I write a really nice letter, they’ll consider coming out of retirement. My other favorite SNL skit with Sheri Oteri was when she played the old lady on the porch. The kids kept accidentally sending balls and toy over into her yard. She’d pick them up and say, “See this? It’s MINE now!!” I love that!
Anyway, I had a pretty decent bench work out today. I was sans trainer again so I had the 14 year old prodigy/drop-out/rap producers spot me. He did a fine job, and he was psyched because I let him brag about how incredibly awesome and unbeatable he was in between sets. He’s going to the Olympics ya know ; ) After my warm up I was tasked with doing 5×3 at 130 pounds. Yikes. I tried to get myself as psyched up as I could. Keep in mind that me getting psyched up is really quite pathetic. “Okay……here we go….I guess….woo..oo.” The other key for me was trying not to think about form, just focusing on pushing the weight. It worked pretty well. I needed a little help on a few of the 3rd reps, but overall I’m happy with how it went.
I do have a confession to make though. I’ve taken my first down turn into the vanity of lifting weights. I’ve always maintained that I lift weights to be strong. Any changes in my body that occur are just an added bonus. I think that’s a bit of the distinction between body builders and powerlifters. There are, of course, extremes in both cases. However, I was over analyzing my upper body while brushing my teeth the other morning. And I noticed that I’m seriously lacking in shoulder definition. Oh the vanity. So I’ve decided to add some lateral raises and such to my workouts. We’ll see if it makes a difference. I just want to reassure you though……I won’t be going overboard with the bulge obsession…..
