Jacked and Tan. A phrase I hear all too often that unfortunately has zero application when it comes to my physical appearance. My love of Ho-Ho’s and Klondike bars keeps me from looking ripped and a pesky sun allergy keeps me from basking in the sun till I reach a sizzling, golden brown.
However……I did try a Jack3d pre-work out drink today. So in that sense, I was jacked….and still kind of am actually. Feel like running around the block a few times.
I had a squat workout today. After last week’s catastrophy I was nervous. But I had a few things working in my favor. One….my newest fashion accessory…..
And second….I was Jack3d!!!!! Some people talk about the stuff like it’s wonder drug. I thought is was helpful, but I’m not quite convinced that it was a life altering experience yet. I typically try to steer clear of caffeine and this stuff’s still got me feeling like I just downed a half dozen espresso shots. The sad part is that I drank it about 5 hours ago ; )
So the goal for the day was to do a 3 rep max for squats. I was really hesitant to go too heavy so I started out at 95 pounds and added 10 pounds every time. It felt good. I tried to make sure that I was getting good depth every rep. I didn’t strap on the belt until I got up to 155 pounds. I could definitely feel a difference. I was nervous that it would throw me off since it was my first time squatting with a belt, but it didn’t at all. I was actually more nervous that I wouldn’t be able to get it off by myself since it’s so stiff. I made the 14 year-old prodigy/gangsta rapper promise that he’d save me if I got stuck in it before I put it on. Between my jackedness and my spiffy new belt, I got all the way up to 185 for three reps. I meant to try 190, but I accidentally added 10 pounds instead of 5 so I crumbled on the first rep. The mental aspect of lifting that much weight may have been getting to me at that point too. I’m scared of lifting heavy weight ya know.
Next up it was back extensions, RDL’s, and shrugs. Here’s where the down side of the workout came in. I can’t say for sure if it was the tightness of my belt during the squats or the Jack3d, but I was getting pretty light headed in between sets for the second half of the workout (even after I was done with the belt). I felt great when I was lifting, but as soon as I finished I had to sit down for a few seconds. I guess it’s better than debilitating toe cramps (another common problem of mine). Anyway, I’ll try it again on Wednesday for bench and see if it has the same effect. If it does….I might have to admit that I’m just not man enough to get Jacked.
