Another glorious day in the g ym. It was a day of heavy benching in my new, frilly, pink wrist wraps.
Like these only way cuter because they have pink stripes instead of green.
The goal for the day was a 2 rep max. I started out at 65 pounds and worked my way up. It started getting tough around 135 pounds. I got 2 reps at 140 pounds, but then I could only do 1 rep at 145. I did it twice though. Considering that I lifted 143 at my last meet and could only get to 130 in the gym leading up to that, I’m fairly encouraged. I’m not sure if the wrist wraps helped, but it certainly allowed me to see exactly how many veins I have in my hands. Yeah….they were tight!
Next, we went straight to the torture phase of the workout. I was supposed to do 140 with a close grip lowered down to a three board thicknesses off my chest. Hmmmm. That didn’t work out so good. I got it about half way up and had to abort the mission (well, I really didn’t go anywhere cause I was kind of stuck holding the bar half way up). It was fun. Next I went down to 135 and was supposed to do some crazy concoction of 50 some reps at varying depths starting a few inches off my chest and working up. I did the first few, but I really struggled so we skipped straight to 5 board thickness. I was held at gun point and forced to do as many reps as I possibly could. I was literally whimpering by the end of it. Pathetic.
Oh and it got worse from there. Next Ray thought it would be fun to have me do pull ups while he pulled ferociously on a giant rubber band that was wrapped around my hips. On the second set, I got lucky and the rubber band slipped off. That was the first time in my life that I was told that I actually need BIGGER hips. Yeah, that’s not going to happen….well, not on purpose anyway ; ) Then I had some shoulder presses in store. Again….horrible. I was dead from all that benching….even in my oh so slightly Jack3d state…I was pretty worthless.
And then….for some insane reason, I got cocky. You’d think at the point where I was absolutely exhausted and my entire body felt fatigued that I would throw in the towel and go home when Ray said the work out was over. But no. I just HAD to stay and do some abs. I thought I could just quietly work through it on my own. However, Ray jumped at the chance to add insult to injury. So yeah, he put me through the wringer for another 15 minutes while I lay whimpering on the ground. Fabulous. Can’t wait for tomorrow ; )
