Now that’s some volume!
I’m sick of it . I’ve had enough. I managed to avoid a ratted out perms and 6 inch high bangs back in the 80’s, but now I’m paying for it. Well, not in a hair style sense, but in the gym. So….many…..reps. Yesterday I did 146 reps, not counting warm ups. Today I did 300 reps, and I’m officially worn out. Unfortunately, that really doesn’ matter. I have the same workout in my future for the next two weeks, ugh! I think we determined on Monday that I’ll do more reps in my first three weeks of this training round than I did in my entire training cycle for my last meet (13 weeks of training). It sucks. It’s making me feel like an old lady. But…it’s also making me stronger (I hope). Looking through my training log earlier this week, I realized that I’m moving a lot more weight now than I used to. In May, I attempted to do 5 sets of 10 at 115 pounds and failed on the last set. Yesterday I did 5 sets of 20 at 115 pounds and only needed a spot on a few reps. That’s a huge improvement. Something to be proud of.
I think I’ve also made improvements in my ability to get through my workouts. I’ve realized that there is a huge difference between not wanting to do something and not being able to do something. I still whine and complain, don’t get me wrong. But I’m a bit better about eventually sucking it up and getting the work done. That can be attributed to an increase in mental toughness, a lot of guidance and “encouragement” from my trainer, and a great atmosphere. Seriously, I appreciate the gym where I work out more everyday.
This isn’t the greatest picture, but it gives you idea of the fabulousness that is IST!
Having to work out at Anytime Fitness while I was on vacation was a huge eye opener. It was a nice gym and had the equipment I needed, but it just wasn’t the same. Everything was shiny and new. The pull up bar felt like it had been greased with Pam. The bars were all shiny silver and slippery. I tripped on the new carpeting everywhere I walked. It made me miss the rusty barbells, worn pull up bars, plywood platforms, and most of all…Chalk at IST. How different my life would be if I hadn’t found that place (maybe I’d actually have one? ; )
Anyway….Fire up for a rest day tomorrow!!!
