It’s Saturday and one of my favorite parts about the weekend is getting up and making breakfast for my bf and I. Today it was giant stacks of buttermilk waffles…yummy. My little Shae even got to enjoy a few bites……tasty! While I had the waffles in the waffle iron, I was also whipping out a batch my famous chocolate chip cookies. With pecans, of course. I’m a firm believer that all baked goods should have nuts. And…I did all of this while I was hobbling around on sore hamstrings. I know, I’m amazing.
My hamstrings are sore from Thursdays workout. I was notified early in the day that my workout would include a “twist” this week. I really don’t like surprises…unless they’re presents, then bring it on!! I was a bit nervous about it, but figured it couldn’t get much worse than the 100 squat reps that I was already preparing myself for. When I got to the gym, we did the bench reps first, as usual. My bench sucked. I just felt wiped out. I think benching hard twice a week is starting to wear on me. My shoulders have been feeling a bit achy and my wrists aren’t all that happy. Next up, the squat workout….oh the agony. However, it really wasn’t that bad this time. Instead of doing 100 reps, I only had to do 5 sets of 10. 50 reps felt like a vacation….even at 135 pounds. I’m sure I won’t have the same story as the weight starts to creep up, but it was a welcomed change. I was informed that we switched away from the 5 sets of 20 because my body is “awesome” at adapting. As a result, the torture methods must be altered more often. Fantastic. I guess the goal now is to work my way up to 5×10 at 155 pounds. The thought of that makes me a bit queasy, but we’ll see how it goes. Since I got a “break” on my squat reps, RDL’s were added back into the mix. 5 sets of 10, of course. I did it at 115 pounds. It wasn’t hard, but I could tell that it was going to hurt later, and I HATE having sore hamstrings. It’s the worst. Sure enough, I woke up sore the very next morning and have been ever since. It’s awesome when you wince just trying to sit on the toilet. I LOVE it.
And I usual, I had my Friday morning workout a mere 12 hours later. I put up a serious protest regarding the 300 reps I’ve been doing on my non-squat day for the last few weeks. As a result, I was granted permission to reduce my pull ups to 5 sets of AMAP (as many as possible). That made the workout so much more bearable! I think I did 9-6-4-5-4. Not great, but it wasn’t bad considering I just did 50 pull ups on Tuesday. Just making that adjustment, I cut at least 10 or 15 minutes off the workout time. Sweet.
Immediately after my workout, I had to run over to a local festival and help set up recycling bins. Normally this is great fun, however this festival is spread out over a ~1/4 strip. I walked that effing strip about 20 times. Nothing like a 4 mile speed walking jaunt after back to back workouts. I even have the blisters to show for it.
(Okay, I just have to warn you….Never, Ever, Ever search for the word “blisters” on Google Images….ick.)
And now today, I’m off to a running race. It’s a small, family organized race that happens every year. I actually won this race two years ago. But now, I’ve traded in my saucony’s for my Oly’s. So today, I will simply be a spectator….with chocolate chip cookies in hand.
