Power lifting has officially taken control of my life. I’m not sure how it happened, or when, but it’s got it’s hooks in deep. I think about it, I write about it, I talk about it. It’s crazy. I’m pretty sure my bf would say that I’m obsessed, but I guess I’m okay with that. It sure beats a Justin Bieber obsession….
Does he seriously pay some one to give him a swirly every morning in order to get that hair do?
I was in the gym yesterday for some box squats, RDL’s, and an encounter with the new reverse hyper that the gym just got. So it turns out that I have become relatively comfortable with being uncomfortable. I did box squats, 3×3 at 165 lbs, and they were fairly easy. I felt guilty doing them because it didn’t hurt enough. Like I should put more weight on the bar so that I could feel the burn. But….I didn’t. So to make up for it, I tried to punish myself with the RDL’s. I had to do 3 sets of 5. I normally do at least 8 reps and use about 155 lbs, so I thought I’d bump it up to 185. Success! I’m not going to say it was easy, but I didn’t have too much trouble with it. As you can imagine, my back was fairly cashed out after squats and RDL’s. Which was an absolutely perfect way to start out on the new reverse hyper machine. Perfect. If you haven’t been lucky enough to encounter a reverse hyper, here’s what it looks like.
Ours is slightly more ghetto, but you get the idea….
So you lay on top of it, add a bunch of weight to the pendulum and lift your legs up. It makes your lower back feel like it’s about to burst into flames. At least an 11 or higher on this pain scale…
Isn’t this hilarious? I love #12, love it.
When I was finished, I slumped against the side of the machine and spent a good 5 minutes trying to convince myself that I could actually stand upright and in fact walk. It was a battle though. It brought me back to my humbling days of doing wrist extensions. The simplest movements can sometimes ruin your life/confidence/ego more that you could imagine.
Today is bench day and I get to try my hand at weighted dips. It should be fun, especially considering I have a semi formal event to attend directly after the gym. I hate how life gets in the way of lifting sometimes. It’s really annoying.
