No lifting for me yesterday so I thought I’d share some links that I’ve seen lately. It’s nice to have so many great online resources, and to have so many people out there that are willing to read, test, and evaluate the insane amount of fitness information that is available today. I’ve got a few favorites that you might enjoy.
The 10 manliest exercises. A fantastic article about a few things you can do to make yourself look and feel extra tough!! The article can only take you so far. If you try to do chain dips with a bike chain around your neck….you’re going to get laughed out of the gym. Anyway, it’s a great article on T-Nation that’s worth checking out.
Disecting the RDL. I think RDL’s are great. And everyone should do them, but good form is key. The folks at Integrated Athlete Performance wrote an article about the in’s and out’s of the RDL. It really hit home with me because I was recently bragging about my 185 lb RDL’s. In the article, they noted that almost every athlete they work with, even females, uses over 200 lbs for RDLs. Great…I’m back to loser status.
And Finally, the folks at Davis Fitness blog have a YouTube video about to answer the question…Does Running Cause Muscle Loss? I’ve been getting this question a lot lately. I’ve mentioned that I used to be a runner. My bf and I would travel to races together and met a lot of folks in the running community. My bf still runs, but I don’t. So I go to races as a groupie. Yes, a running groupie. I may be the only one of my kind, but there it is. The people at these races know that I used to run so they’re always asking me why I’m in jeans and not my running shorts. It’s hard to explain to an avid runner that it’s actually not the best thing in the world for you…putting on tons of miles. Runners love running and think everyone should do it. They convey this to you as they stand around comparing injuries- IT bands, lost cartilage, plantar fasciitis, sciatica, you name it….they’ve had it. AND it breaks down muscle. I plan to keep this little video bookmarked on my phone so I can use it to my defense!
I also wanted to share my latest success. I qualified and have been accepted to lift at the Raw Unity Meet in January 2011. It’s a meet that brings together all the different Raw lifting associations to compete against each other. I am super psyched. I found out last night around 10 pm and haven’t been able to think about anything since. Check out the highlights from last year’s meet!
