Yep, that’s pretty much what I did yesterday….squatted my brains out. Lucky me. My trainer is under going his first round of final exams as a new grad student. Apparently, he felt the need to share his disgruntlement with me. How sweet.
I was given the workout mid afternoon. Squat. 5 rep max, 3 rep max, and then 1 rep max. Wait…is this three workouts? Nope, just one. Do all 3, in a row. F bomb. Oh, and then do some RDL’s and reverse hyper. Sounds like fun.
It honestly wasn’t too bad. The worst part was that I really felt gassed, from the very beginning of the workout. I’m not sure if I’m still recovering from my month of sickness, or if I’m just in piss poor cardiovascular shape. It was humbling though. I warmed up as usual- 95×5, 135×5, 155×5 and then went on to the working sets. I did 185 just fine, and 195 felt good. I really felt like I should be able to get 205×5, but…..no. I got 3 reps in and then just couldn’t cut the mustard. It was rather depressing. I was out of breathe and I was seriously over thinking my form. Gggrrr. But…at least I had my 3 rep max out of the way! Next up was my 1 rep max. I slapped 215 on (my previous meet PR), and got 1 rep….barely. I knew I didn’t have much left so I bumped it up to 220 for one last shot. Nothing. I think I was doomed from the start on that one. Just the sound of “220” freaked me out. Oh well, I’m sure I would have been able to do it without all the other heavy reps in front of it (or at least that’s what I’m telling myself).
Unfortunately, I still had the rest of my workout to do. I had RDL’s 3×8. Ray always tells me when I’m supposed to go light, and there was no mention of lightness today. So, I gutted it out and stuck with the usual 185. Oh my goodness. They hurt. They hurt almost as much as the 3×16 on the reverse hyper. Until last night, I thought I had gotten over my severe hatred for the reverse hyper. But no….it’s still going strong. It was seriously a bitch after all the other sets I had done. It reminded me of a tweet that I had read earlier in the week.
- craigzielinski Hands red raw from Deadlifts. Legs annihilated. Pro tip no. 23: Do not Front Squat and Deadlift in same training session. Legs may come off.
Seriously, I felt like my legs were going to come off. Right where my pelvic bone attaches to my spine…clean break. But they didn’t. I even managed to go grocery shopping afterwards! I did make the fiancé carry my laundry baskets up the stairs for me though. I was done.
I got a message from my trainer this morning. “Are you sore?” Yes. Really sore, my back is aching. No response. Huh? That was all you wanted to know, if I was in pain? “Yep. Lol”.
