What a fantastic weekend! I seriously had my doubts about this weekend on Friday afternoon when I was looking at an evening out with a group of people I didn’t know, Saturday at a Bridal Show, and a day of cleaning on Sunday. It had major potential to suck, but I was pleasantly surprised.
I spent my Friday night with a group of the fiancé’s friends from High School. They were an interesting bunch. I met my first true Frenchmen, and had my first evening at the Barnum Municipal bar. Oh, and how could I forget….my first meat raffle! It was classic. Although I was a bit concerned when I looked up at the clock to see that it was 1:05 and I knew that I had a date with the gym at 7:00 am!
We buzzed home and I got about 4 hours of sleep before I had to be up to meet a dear friend of mine at Anytime fitness for a cardio/circuit workout. There were lots of wall squats, push ups, jumping jacks, and burpees. It was a decent workout. For some reason, my friend was really hoping to kick my ass that morning. She is admittedly very competitive and doesn’t really like to do anything unless she knows she can win. She’s been working out regularly for about 2 months. I’ve been working out regularly for about 4 years. I’ve always been the kind of person that has to really bust ass just to achieve a somewhat average standing in any sport or physical activity. So, I fully expect that other people who have done less work will be trampsing me effortlessly in no time at all. However…..after 2 months? Come on…..at least give me a little credit! She was very disappointed that I made it through the workout just fine. Her…not so much. It was her first workout after a week’s vacation and she struggled a bit. Afterwards, just to seal the deal, I challenged her to a pull up contest. I did 7 to her zero ; ) It was still fun though! And even though I didn’t let her “win”, she was still graceful enough to accompany me to the dreaded Duluth Bridal Show.
I was not looking forward to wading through a mob of needy Brides-to-be all day. But I needed help, and what better way to knock out a bunch of vendor shopping than seeing them all in one place? So off we went. Luckily, I insisted that we went right at 10 am when it opened so I was in no mood for the gobs of cake and candy samples that littered the booths. There were a lot of great ideas and 27 DJ’s. I found some great musicians, a cute set of fairy wings/ring holder to strap on a dog, some food ideas, and some great dress ideas. There was even a glitzy fashion show at the end of the day to top everything off. The model “brides” were all dangerously skinny which made the dresses seem incredibly unflattering. Hopefully that means that my badonkadonk will be flattered nicely in a curvy dress! When I got home, the fiancé and I had a great discussion about everything I had seen. We even finalized a bunch of stuff. We’ll be using clover (green) for our accent color. We have our bridal party chosen (little do they know), we picked a date, settled on our location and a few more fun details. At last….I am so excited! I spent the rest of the night sifting through Bridal magazines and watching wedding shows on instant Netflix. Yeah…..so cheesy!
Sunday was another blissful day. I alternated one episode of “Say Yes to the Dress” with a half hour of de-christmasifying the house, and repeat. It was great. Everything is now packed up and put away. Except for the tree that is. When we were taking off the lights and the ornaments, we realized that the tree actually has tons of newly budded growth. WTF? Our tree is actually thriving in our living room! We haven’t had the heart to take it down and throw it in an icy snow bank yet. Maybe next weekend : (
