I feel like I’ve been all over the place lately. Now that I’m an official Anytime Fitness member, I’m once again back and forth between two gyms. I think I’m okay with it though. The fiance and I got a family plan so we’ve actually been able to work out together a few times. It’s really been nice. I’m also planning to join a weight loss competition. I have no chance of winning, but I figured any added incentive to lose this 10 pounds can’t hurt.
The other insane plus to having an Anytime membership……people watching! I kind of miss the element of the gym at IST. Although, I’m very lucky to work out with elite level athletes (so what if they’re all 12) on a daily basis. It’s a great challenge and I feel like I fit in pretty well there. However, there are definitely days that I miss the freak and weirdo factor of your standard gym. I also really appreciate how strong I feel when I’m at Anytime. When I compare myself to elite athletes….I’m barely hanging on…fingernails scraping the edge of the cliff. But when I compare myself to the average Anytime Fitness goer…..oh my.
My first shining moment was when I walked in Sunday morning and saw one guy cranking out pull ups on the gravatron. He had the weight jacked way up so he was pulling about….15 pounds. Sad….so very sad. It took everything I had not to go over and crank out a bunch of pull ups on the adjacent pull up bar just to make him feel like a weakling. Poor guy. Then I looked over and saw a guy doing shoulder raises….with 10 pound dumbbells. Really? Come on. I use 10 pounds!!
The best Anytime moment though…..omg. I use my anytime membership mainly to walk on the treadmill. Serious cardio can have negative effects on my strength training, so I’m trying to do a lot of walking to get a more gradual effect. The treadmills are set up right behind a row of stationary bikes. On Sunday, there was a younger woman going to town on one of the bikes. She was in normal workout attire- windpants, tank top, and a bandana headband. She seemed perfectly normal, that is until she turned to the side. She then revealed the most ginormous fake eyelashes I’ve ever seen. At the gym….sweating her @ss off….in big, thick, fake eyelashes. I couldn’t believe it. I observed her curiously for several minutes before she did the second most horrifying thing I’d seen that day. She took the bandana off her head, twisted it up in her hands, and wrung it out on the floor next to her bike. There was seriously a full cup of sweat that poured out of that thing….onto the Floor. Yuck!! I think I’m still recovering from that one.
Luckily, I’m back at IST tonight for a squat workout. I’m hoping that this week doesn’t bring another double 50 pull up workout. Maybe some benching this week though. The shoulder is starting to feel a lot better…finally!!!!
