I hope everyone had a fabulous holiday weekend. I made the mistake of attending my first power lifting meet as a spectator. Not recommended folks. OMG. It’s like watching paint dry. Well, it’s not really that bad…but there is so much waiting involved. And to top it all off, I felt all the associated angst that I would feel if I had been lifting so my patience was pretty much non-existent. Never again. I would definitely work/volunteer at a meet, but I don’t think I could ever watch an entire meet.
What’s even worse than watching paint dry? Spending 3 hours in Bed, Bath, and Beyond registering for a wedding. Have you ever gone into a housewares store and gone down EVERY SINGLE ISLE? No, of course not. No one does that. Maybe…under extreme circumstances, a woman would, but NEVER a guy. Well…that’s exactly what the fiancé did on Saturday. He was threatening sever bodily harm by the time we got out of there…can’t say that I blame him really. I think permanent testicular damage ensues after the 3 hour mark….so it’s understandable that he was persistent.
The rest of the weekend was all about working out…and napping. On Sunday, I did a full hour of walking on the treadmill. This was one of the first times I was actually able to stick it out for the full hour. You’d think this would be a good thing, right? Wrong. I came home in a ravenous state and tore through every scrap of edible food in our fridge (I make this distinction because there is unfortunately a good amount of unrecognizable goo in the fridge as well). Then I went after the cup boards on a serious carb rampage. Finally, I ended up in a carb coma. I fell asleep for what I thought would be a cat nap and woke up 4 hours later. Seriously. That session of cardio did a LOT more harm than good. I’m curious to see if this will be a trend with me. Is cardio really the devil? I say it all the time, but for me…I think it is actually true. It turns me into a sleep deprived, gluttonous piggy. That’s not exactly what I’m going for here.
Monday, the President’s day holiday, found me back in the gym…between napping and binging of course. I did the first half of my workout at IST. Squats 5×6 at 175 pounds and RDLs 5×6 at 185 pounds. Both were hard, and tiring. My legs felt completely cashed out after 5 rounds of squats, then the RDLs killed my back…and I had the rest of my workout to do. So I cheated a bit. I took an extended break between sets, picked up the fiancé and headed to Anytime to finish my workout. Front Squats 3×12 at 115 pounds and back extensions 3×12 at 35 pounds. I hate front squats. I’m not sure why, but they seem to have overtaken all of my disgruntlement lately. They burn. I’m even sore in my mid-back today. My lower back is sore all the time, but my mid-back…never. Front squats. It’s really a non-issue though. It’s not like a person would use their mid-back all day long while sitting at a desk typing…not at all.
P.S. Sorry about the disappointing lack of pictures lately. I’m having issues with wordpress and my computer not really liking me uploading photos. It pains me to post plain old text, but it will have to do until I find a solution. Thanks for hanging in there!
