I frequently find myself on a bit of a roller coaster when it comes to appearance and my self perception. I’ve mentioned the melting muscle effect that happens when I miss a few days in the gym. Likewise, there is the multiplying love handle effect. I swear my love handles double in size on the days I’m not in the gym. Okay, so I know that’s not physically possible. It is truly a mental illusion, but I don’t care! It’s the same as when I dream that my fiance has spent the evening “entertaining” a harem of trifling women. I know it’s not real, but it still pisses me off! Come on ladies, tell me you’ve never done it before.
Anyway, I was doing pull ups the other and on the second or third set in I noticed something. I was standing on a box (yes, midgets need a leg up to grab the bar) getting ready (I was really stalling because I was seriously sucking wind) when I looked down. When looked down, all I saw were my quads. Not boobs, not a big gut, but strong muscly quads. My legs have always been my least favorite part of my body, but the other day I started to look at them in a new light. They may sprout dimples at the meer sight of a DQ Blizzard, but they’re also packin some heat. And I’m good with that. I’d much rather be flippin tires with Cameron Diaz than lifting 3 pounders with Gwenyth (she seriously won’t lift anything over 3 pounds)!!
Seriously….look at those arms!!!
This looks more like an ad for an eating disorder clinic than a who’s who of Hollywood.
And that’s why I work out folks. Cameron shoulders…..here I come (well, that would be nice anyway). In my quest for greatness in the gym, I had a really good bench workout on Tuesday. 5×6 at 115 pounds. I haven’t done anything that heavy in a long time, and I was really happy with how strong I felt. I also did some shoulder presses, pull ups, dumbbell rows, and tricep push downs. Wednesday I was back an Anytime for an hour on the treadmill. I would not normally condone long, steady state cardio, but I’m trying to carefully balance weight loss with strength gains. Any serious cardio can counter act my strength workouts….so I’m stuck with walking. It’s not bad though….the people watching is fantastic.
Finally, today I had a squat workout. I got to do a couple of oldies but goodies. Box squats- 9×3 at 135. They weren’t super challenging, but gave me a much needed chance to work on my form. I even did the last rep at 185. I was really nervous to try it since I’d never box squatted anything close to that, but it actually went up fairly easily. I was pretty impressed with myself 😉 I also did some trapeze like rubber band squats that the coach dreamed up. Those were fun. And the best part….3×10 of Good Mornings! I haven’t done any of those babies in forever. They were really light today, but it actually felt good. Maybe there will be more in my future? Time will only tell.
