This is what heaven looks like….in case you were wondering.
It’s been coming for weeks, and I’ve been dreading it. I knew that going on a low carb diet would eventually mean giving up fruit. Oh man….do I love me some fruit….apples, bananas, pears, oh my! And it is prime fruit season (okay so maybe summer is, but we’re getting close!). After cutting out all refined sugar a few weeks ago, I would use fruit as a substitute. When I was craving a gigantor Hershey bar….I would settle for a juicy, ripe pear. Pretty much anytime I was hungry at work, I’d reach for a banana or an apple. Healthy right? I guess, but pure carboliciousness. So when I was whining about my plateau last week, the obvious response was “Down With Fruit!”. I was also told that “Dairy Is The Devil!”. One by one the simple pleasures in life are slowly being chipped away. Crunchy, juicy apples have now been replaced by sugar free gum. So sad.
Another change is that I’ll be adding some complex carbs earlier in the day. My first task was to add a scoop of raw oatmeal to my protein shakes. Mind you, I don’t blend my shakes so the oatmeal was whole flake form. My fiancé was flabbergasted last night when he was watching me mix up my post workout shake. “What the truck are you doing?? You’re not going to be able to eat that!” He’s well aware of my food issues, and my serious rebellion against eating anything I don’t like. I HATE oatmeal. It’s nothing but gruel. Adding raw oatmeal to protein powder and water did not seem like it had a chance in hell with this picky eater. It seriously wasn’t bad though. The fiancé was in shock when I came home and told him that it was actually pretty good. He was waiting for a detailed depiction of the shock and awe that ensued as I was trying to choke it down. Sorry Charlie.
I’m also seriously trying to get back on the cardio horse. I’m not a fan of dedicated cardio, but I’m going to have to do a lot more of it if this is all going to work. Last night I had a great bench workout, 3×3 at 125 pounds. Followed by some pull ups, barbell rows, curls and skull crushers. Then I drug my @ss to Anytime and did 25 minutes of cardio. It was fantastic. I got home around 8:00 and sat down to my dinner of lunchmeat (yeah, just the meat on a plate) and some avocado. FML. Then I was back at it this morning for 30 minutes of interval training before work. I will say that the interval training goes by a LOT quicker than the slow, steady state cardio that I’ve been doing. I like it a lot more. We’ll see how long I can hold on with restricted diet, cut calories, and trying to maintain my sanity. Oh….this is going to be so much fun!!!
